Old Man Winter is here, and unfortunately he never comes alone, bringing along his pals, wind, snow, and that dreadful flu. While you can't control the weather, there are some simple things you can do to ensure you stay healthy this winter.
Drink up. Everyone knows it's important to drink plenty of water when it's hot outside, but it's also just as important when it's cold. Besides water, be sure to stay hydrated by getting your fill of milk and fruit and vegetable juices.
Wash your hands. One of the best ways to prevent getting sick is to wash your hands often. Remember to wash for at least 60 seconds and use warm water and soap every time.
Eat right. A good diet is always important, but even more so during the cold and flu season. Fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamins and minerals that can help boost your immune system.
Stay active. Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean it's time to stop working out. Maintaining or even starting an exercise regimen will help kick-start your metabolism, boost the immune system, and reduce stress.
Get some sleep. Make sure your body is capable of fighting off illnesses this winter by creating a consistent bedtime routine. Try going to bed the same time each night -- even on weekends -- so that your body learns to anticipate sleep.
